Upcoming Events and Activities - AGU, YES Africa, GSA2011, etc.!

I just got back from the Geological Society of America meeting in Denver, Colorado last week. What a great meeting! It was good to meet so many new people who are excited to get involved with the YES Network in expanding the US National Chapter. Welcome to all our new members that joined the YES Network during the GSA meeting this year!

Well, we've got an exciting next few months starting with the AGU meeting next month in San Francisco!

Here's some ways you can get involved in the YES US National Chapter:

AGU 2010
YES Network members are co-convening two sessions at AGU this year, and we'll all be getting together for dinner on Monday evening (check out the schedule on the YES Network's international blog). If you're going to AGU next month, let us know so we can keep you up to date on everything we're doing at the meeting. Hope to see you all in San Francisco!

GeoBloggers
If you would like to blog on the YES Network USA site about geoscience related topics and events (including the upcoming AGU meeting), please email us at yesnetwork.usa [at] gmail.com.

GeoPhoto Showcase
We will be showcasing photos from fieldwork, research, lab work, teaching, etc. from YES Network members in the USA right here on our site. Please send us your photos (to yesnetwork.usa [at] gmail.com) with a caption and permission to use the photo on our YES USA website.

Getting Ready for GSA 2011
We are currently planning YES Network activities for the GSA 2011 meeting. If you have ideas for sessions, webinars, activities, field trips, etc., send an email to Mary Seid at yesnetwork.usa [at] gmail.com. Session proposals are due in early January, so let's start discussing our ideas soon! We're also looking for a few people to help out with the coordination of our YES activities at GSA next year. Email Mary if you are interested in being part of the coordinating team.

Web-Connect to the YES Africa 2011 Symposium
If you aren't flying over to Johannesburg, South Africa this January to take part in the YES Africa 2011 Symposium and CAG23 meeting, you can register online for the roundtables as a web-based participant. There will be two roundtables on 12 January 2011 that will be broadcast in real-time: one on natural hazards and one on creating professional development resources for early-career geoscientists. Visit the YES Africa 2011 webpage for more information about the conference and roundtables, and for registration details. Web-based participation in these roundtables is free.

  1. Hi! I'll be at AGU! I'd love to help with organization and such for next year's events at GSA. I also plan to attend the dinner, and maybe get some ideas as to launching the YES Network Denmark Chapter. See you in SFO!

  2. That's great news Tiffany! I think we can get a really good discussion going between all the YES Network members that will be at AGU about starting National Chapters. We'll have members from countries with established YES Network National Chapters and those from countries that are just getting started. I'll count you in for the organization of YES events at GSA next year, and we can talk about this more about this at AGU.

    See you in SFO!
